HUGE ATTENDANCE AT BREMORE PASSAGE GRAVES TALK
The Hamilton Hall had standing room only for the latest talk in our 2008 schedule last Tuesday.
Professor George Eogan ,emeritus Professor of Celtic Archaeology at University College Dublin made a very entertaining and informative presentation on ‘The Archaeology of Bremore’

His talk to an attendance of over 100 people covered the archaeology, history and the culture of the region of Bremore ,Gormanston and the Passage Graves on both sides of the Delvin river. He explained the links between theses important passage graves and the ones at Knowth, Dowth, Four Knocks and a much wider area from Northern Spain up to the Orkney Islands in Scotland – and all of this was about 5 thousand years ago!
He also reiterated that Bremore is a very small limited area which already has two preservation orders protecting it and that research on this has been well documented since at least the 1840’s.

In a lively Questions & Answers session Professor Eogan concluded that while he is definitely not against development per se he believes that given the importance of the small area involved and existence of the preservation orders other sites for the potential Port Development should be considered.

Change of Programme of Events in May

We are delighted to announce that Professor George Eogan , emeritus Professor of Celtic Archaeology at University College Dublin has accepted our invitation to make a presentation entitled:
'The Archaeology of Bremore and its Passage Tombs'

Due to the recent unfortunate fire at Bracken Court Hotel our venue has now been switched to the Hamilton Hall, Balbriggan Town Hall, St George's Square, Balbriggan (over Balbriggan Library)
Date : Tuesday 20th May at 8.30pm

Professor George Eogan and his research on Bremore have recently been widely commented on by the national media and it is with great pleasure that we have secured his services to allow the people of our region to understand the Archaeology of Bremore and its Passage Tombs explained by such an internationally renowned and authoritative figure.

Professor Eogan led the 40 year programme of archaeological work on Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth and is considered to be a world authority in this area.
It is anticipated that given future development plans for this region that there will be a significant attendance at this event.

Jim Walsh's May talk on the Man O War and the Turks Head has been deferred to facilitate Professor Eogan's presentation.
